Our heavily convenience driven consumer culture resulted in 23 billion disposable cups used in the U.S. in 2010.

The problem with plastic coffee cup lids:
1. blocks coffee aroma which is the most important attribute to specialty coffee. decrease in aroma can cause a dramatic decrease in the overall coffee flavor and the drinking experience.
2. plastic off-gassing when apply heat.
3. hard to recycle, and not decomposable

The main goal of my exploration is to find/make materials can:
1. release coffee aroma - heat activation
2. stay away from plastic - so no plastic off-gassing
3. recyclable or decomposable
4. food safe

Two materials I had experimented with:
1. Coffee grounds composite

2. Mango fibers
