Enclosure Design
When I joined Respiratory Motion in June 2012, the team was racing to test and finalize electronic components and software and getting FDA approval. They had just kicked off the enclosure design process with one mechanical engineer and one graphic designer working together. The team had a very ambitious goal of having the first unit manufactured by early Sept of the same year. The team had recognized the need of a well designed enclosure and its accessories in today's market. However, only 6 weeks were budgeted before sending the design off for stereolithography (SLA).
Here are the challenges:
- the 6-week time frame
- 2-part mold only
- bulky electronics for the time being
- electronic components are not finalized yet during the FDA approval process, but design need to be carried on in parallel
- medical-grade
